Instead of wearing school uniform, Creative Secondary School students wore pink on 28 January 2015. The Pink Day action enabled them to raise over HK$5,000 for a breast cancer charity organization in Hong Kong.
The Charity Team of the Students’ Union and the union’s members have prepared a causal wear day and a bake sale for students! Not only was this event dedicated to raise awareness of breast cancer and raise money to donate to the Breast Cancer Foundation, it is also a time for students to make Mean Girl references!
All proceeds will go to the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation, an organization that promotes public awareness of breast cancer and supports cancer patients on their road to recovery. Students participated in the casual wear day, wore at least one article of pink clothing and paid a minimum amount of $15 to charity.
The Students’ Union also sought generous sponsorship from their teachers for giving out prizes for those who are best dressed! Champion: 250HKD Starbucks card, 1st runner up: 150HKD iTunes gift card, 2nd runner up: 50HKD Starbucks card
They also sold out about 70 delicious pink cupcakes ($8.5 for one) which were made by students and teachers.
Secondary 5 student Polly So Po-lam was happy with the participation of the day. It was better than she expected. A big majority of the school community, including not only more than two-third of the student population, but also teachers and our school principal Mr Cheung Siu-ming also wore pink and made donation.
She also noticed that many students read information and posters relating to breast cancer posted on school boards.
“The event has really raised the awareness of breast cancer among young students.’’ So said.
