On April 24th, CSS partnered with Goldman Sachs and Bloom HK to clean up a beach on Lamma Island. 25 students participated in the event. When students arrived at the beach, they were surprised to see clean white sand. Many students thought that they had come to the wrong beach. However, after a couple hours of cleaning, our students, who were paired in teams with the Goldman Sachs employees, had collected well over 30 garbage bags full of debris consisting mostly of plastics, styrofoam and other non-biodegradable goods.
Students left the island with a better understanding of the importance of managing pollution and waste in Hong Kong as well as of the scope of the current problem. They also gained a new sense of empowerment in being able to be part of the solution.
