The Hong Kong National Hockey Team participated in the Asian Games Qualifiers in Bangkok, Thailand in May. Despite the political unrest in the area, the tournament went ahead and was a great success. Hong Kong secured crucial victories during the group stages but was unlucky to lose in the final playoff against Kazakhstan due to goal difference. In the final standings, Hong Kong was in 4th place and host Thailand in 3rd. The top 4 teams qualified for the Asian Games to be held in Guangzhou in November, joining the top professional teams from Asia (China, Korea, Japan, India and Malaysia). Both the men and women’s hockey teams of Hong Kong have qualified and are looking forward to the tournament.
