On Wednesday March 10, the Form 4 Geographyclass went on a fieldtrip to the South East New Territories Landfill. Whilethere, the students learned aboutHong Kong’scurrent waste management processes. Students also witnessed thatHong Kong faces very real problems in regards to theamount of resources we consume, and our lack of resources to deal with thewaste that we produce. This topic is examined further in both the Hong KongDiploma Geography Programme and the IB Diploma Geography Programme.

Students were particularly impressed withthe fact that the SENT Landfill harvests methane from the anaerobicdecomposition of organic waste, as well as the degree to which theEnvironmental Protection Department ensures the environmentally friendliness oftheir site.
